Holds PhD in Packing
Posted
Hi everyone,
In the fall, I will travel in the ME and the first stop on my month long trip will be Damascus. Few days later, I will get into Aleppo. There is no way I will miss on the shopping there and there is no way I will haul all that stuff around for a month either.

What do you know about mailing stuff out of Syria? Is it easy, is it tough? Is it cheap or maybe expensive?

Thanks

Mailing packages home to the U.S. from Aleppo was cheap (compared to the cost of sending stuff home from Turkey).

Finding the post office wasn't the easiest, but once there the process was quick.

Thanks Zeke14. How much did you mail and how much did it cost? I called UPS to check prices and they quoted 215$ for 15 lbs.

I can't remember the exact cost--but it wasn't expensive, certainly nowhere near what UPS quoted you. I used the Syrian Postal system, not a private (UPS, DHL) shipping company.

What I mailed were a bunch of scarves (light) and some smaller brass items (medium weight). I think the total weight was around 10 pounds.

The package to the U.S. took about 3 weeks to reach it's destination. On the other hand, the postcards I mailed to friends from Palmyra dated April 12 only arrived last week so I would suggest only mailing a package from Damascus or Aleppo.
