I would like to know how easy it would be to hire a mule in the Goreme and Urgup regions. I don't want a guide or anything I just want a mule on a daily basis for independent walks to carry my seven year old daughter

Thanks

Ok.. I've lived Goreme for a while, and I'm guessing you can arrange to rent a mule for daily walks fairly easily if you talk to your hostel owner, as a first. Everyone knows someone who knows someone.

Secondly, you'll probably be asked to hire a handler for the mule, and its probably a good idea. Mules can be stubborn unless handled by an experienced handler. The terms Stubborn as a mule is not a misnomer.

The cost of the handler may very well be affordable.

If your hostel owner doesn't know anyone, talk to the owner of Flintstones, in Goreme. He's usually well connected and likes to help foriegners. And then, of course, there are rug dealers, that are into all kinds of deals if it involves getting a chance to show you rugs. These are your best chances.

Hope this helps, aside from the standard 'ask the expat' answer, who ALSO like to hang out at Flintstones sometimes.

yours, Tortuga.
