If any of you Turkeyphiles (is that a word?) are pining for Istanbul, you may want to check out The Janissary Tree by Jason Goodwin. It's a murder mystery set in 1830's Istanbul and the main protagonist is a eunuch named Yashim Togalu, a Turkish eunuch detective to the Sultan's royal court. I'm only about a third of the way through it, but I'm enjoying it very much. There's a lot of history in there, and the characters and plot are defined enough to keep me engrossed in the story line. It's certainly not your typical murder mystery, and I'm loving all the references to places in Istanbul I've seen!
