Hi everyone,

I plan to head to the ME in the fall (not sure which countries just yet) and I'd like to know if there are any vaccines I should get or health measures I should take before heading over.

Thanks,

Chris

Always best to talk to a doctor about it, but we were just advised to get the standard vaccines for visiting developing countries - Hep A/B and Typhoid. (We were told they only give typhoid for people who are travelling for longer periods) We got Flu, too, but only because it was free.

If any of your standard childhood sets are due for renewal, you should get those, too.

Depending on where you're visiting, you may want anti-malarials. In the countries we visited - Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Turkey - it wasn't much of a concern - there were a couple of small regions in Egypt on the malaria risk map that we weren't visiting anyway, and a thin strip along the Turkey/Syria border, which we were planning on passing through, but ended up missing.

My sister is in Jordan now and though no shots were required, she got shots against hepatitis A and B, polio and some sort of typhus (don't know the English name). She'll be workign with refugees though, I don't know that a regular tourist really needs any of these.
