We would like to try a volunteer vacation with our entire family for Spring Break in Central America. This would include my wife and I and our four kids, (10, 12, 14, 16). We looked into a few organizations but the program fees will bankrupt us $1500 each not including airfare? It turns out we can get a package deal and stay in a five star resort, rent a car and drive to volunteer in a rural area more cheaply than these organizations would allow us to do. Why is it so expensive? We want to stay with families in the village where we are working. How much could that cost? We are hoping to help build a school, house, playground, teach, coach, and can even do medial missionary work.
Does anyone know an organization that allows kids to volunteer and won't bankrupt us before we even purchase the plane ticket?
