Indian aircrew do things very, very differently.

I travelled Air India. These Indian Matron types roamed the hallways carrying out rudenesses to me whenever possible. For example, I was sleeping when meal time came around. Never mind. She popped up my seat without asking one question. They are curt to the point of rudeness, and are rude to all but indian females, it seems.
On the bright side, we didn't crash and we arrived on time.

I used fly Air India YYZ >> LHR as the fares were a couple of hundred dollars cheaper than Air Crap.
I noticed that white people were usually treated better than Indian passengers. The food was good (cooked in Toronto) and there was plenty of it. The cabin baggage allowance was practically anything you could get by security.
There was one stew whose initials were JS (lived in London) wo was the cutest looking /matron' I saw on AI.
AI equipment always looked as if it was second hand - dirty and shabby. They stopped flying that sector after the plane was blown up near Ireland.

There is definitely a different level of service between flying the Air India North America/Europe route then the Europe/India route. The flight between Europe and India definitely gives you a precursor of what to expect when traveling around India.

Re: Flying Air India? Better Think Again ...
i would never ever Fly Air India again....Last time I travelled with them was between LHR and Chicago...and I ate some Chicken on the Plane and ended up going straight to Hospital when we landed with Food Poisoning!! It HAD to have been the Chicken as I hadn't eaten anything else that day...
I was lucky that I had Travel Insurance or I would have been stung for about $3000 for a 3-Day Stay in Hospital...
I found them to be rude, not helpful at all and I didn't like the way that the Plane smelled...it didn't appear to be clean.
In my Opinion - NEVER EVER Fly With Them!!

Technically it can take up to 48 hours depending on the type...

The aircraft used trans-Atlantic are often turned around in the UK for contamination reasons. In any event the food you complained of would have been prepared in the UK - where all the trans-Atlantic crews live.

Maybe something has changed but I had a great experience with Air India both between NYC and London and London and New Delhi. Sorry to hear others haven't.

Re: Flying Air India? Better Think Again ...
There was a sale offered by AI a few weeks back so I tried to book a flight, JFK to Mumbai. AI say new rules require purchaser to have Indian bank account to buy ticket. Couldn't figure out how to do that but now really wanted to visit India. cheaptickets.com got me flight with Kuwait Airways for$410! AI would have cost "$339 + 411+ in taxes) or some other such bs.
I'm glad I couldn't book with AI, but wondering if any of you have knowledge of Kuwait Airways? And do any of you know anything about needing an Indian bank account to make purchases in India?
I also tried to book a reservation with ayurvadic hospital and they wanted same thing-Down payment through Indian bank account. I actually went with gov. Approved hospital who hadn't asked for down payment.

Maybe it is a scheme to get around being accused of prejudicial pricing against non-Indian citizens.
Here in VietNam some hotels are trying the same trick saying (in large type) 40% discount - with the usual asterisk and at the bottom it says 'proof of residence required' which eliminates foreign visitors.
You have to remember India is a member of the WTO and likely this avoids some accusations pd improper subsidies.
Several carriers are discounting on-line reservations - by eliminating the travel agents - but remember airlines aren't bonded. Read the fine print about baggage, too.

I have also traveled through Air India when i visited to India last time for vaccations with my family, But seriously i have not faced such severe problems while traveling through Air India. I think there they are not rude but they are facing some problem during communication, but i m not sure about the food they are serving. So Please people traveling through Air India should must have there health insurance and never eat chicken in Air India flights.

I used to fly with Air India to Japan, it was just a connected flight but I enjoyed the ride. About food, I didn't feel like to eat anything at that time, so can't complain them about that :p

I have heard that the staff of Air India are on strike. I hope there can be some better staff coming to Air India now.

I normally travel once a year and found Air India to be the worst so far. The plane had past its sell by date. When we took off, we had four toilets out of five working. By the time we landed we had just the one. Queues went half way down the plane. Again, on the return flight similar issue. Food was served cold. Inflight Entertainment broke down after 20minutes of the first program. I have written to Air India twice for an explanation. Both times I had no reply.
