My boyfriend and I will be traveling around Nicaragua. I'll be finishing my trip alone around Guat, but he wanted to go up to Tikal. It seems really complicated, but is there any easy way to get to Tikal fr Nicaragua? He'll be flying in/out of Managua, and we'll be in Granada, Leon, Isla de Ometepe, and Little Corn Islands.

Any tips? Thanks!

If you have the time, the rest of Guatemala is totally worth checking out especially Lake Atitlan. http://joestrippin.blogspot.com/2010/07 ... thing.html

But, if looking at an overland option, it's fairly easy, but long. TicaBus does the direct trip Managua/Leon to Guatemala city (With a mandatory overnight in San Salvador). From G City, there are local buses or tour buses making the nearly 10 hour trip to Flores. It is almost 2 full days of travel to do the overland option. http://www.ticabus.com/ing_rutas_horarios_nica.html

Otherwise it'll be around $325 on Copa, each way to fly Managua-G City, then another flight to Flores. This is not a "We'll just pop over to Tikal" trip. Tikal is awesome though :) http://joestrippin.blogspot.com/2010/07 ... tikal.html

It might have been better to book his return flight from Guatemala city.
Like Fluffy_bunny says, it's about 8 - 10 hours from Guatemala city to Tikal, which means you need at least 3 days to get there and back if you also like to see something

If he leaves Manager in the morning, he can be in Tikal 60 hours later, without flying. Overnight in San Salvador and on a bus heading north from Guatemala City.
