Google Home Page Gadget for Hostels & Flights

Postby MikaL » February 20th, 2008

Hi Guys,

Here's something new that we're playing with. If you use Google's personalized home page, you can search for hostels right from your google home page by adding our Google gadget for hostels.

EDIT: We also have one for Flight comparison now too. Check that out here.

I would love for your guys input on this - it's very much still in infancy.

Thanks!
Mika

I like google gadgets, but I see some work that could be done.
- Personalised currency settings - it's on my home page, I shouldn't have to select the currency every time. This could be through a gadget setting, or you could automatically detect which google page I'm using (if I go to google.ca, I should get CAD by default).
- It takes to a hostel page with the hostelworld look, instead of bootsnall's (also, has no reviews either from BnA or from hostelworld).
- The search box itself could be better integrated with the google look - the red kind of stands out.

Thanks for the suggestions. They're all totally valid, and things we want to work on.

We'll also check into the display issue - that shouldn't be working that way...

See if you can check it out on the camino browsers (or other mac browsers). The hostel search button is half cut off by the right hand frame on my mac- it seems to be a text sizing difference between browsers (maybe you're missing a font size tag.)

Finally, an excuse to update my obsolete google home page. This gadget is great: clean, simple to use, and foolproof. All the suggestions are definitely worth considering. Thanks for the post!
