Greek Islands and the Schengen Visa

Postby hayley_n_josh » December 21st, 2008

Hi everyone,

Im sorry if this is a silly question but Im giving up searching for it on the net. Its driving me crazy!! Confused

So the story is that I have booked our flights and so now we know the dates and days we will be in certain places. And Ive realised that we are cutting it really close to the 90 day limit for the Schengen Visa. We are Australian citizens and from what Ive gathered we can only stay for 90 days max in total. Ive just counted and it looks like we will be there for 88! Phew!!

The problem being though is that before going to Europe we are going to Turkey for 6 weeks and we're hoping to maybe do a couple of days on a Greek Island or 2, but now that we are spending 88 days in Europe we cant.

Is this correct? Do the Greek Islands (particularly the ones close to Turkey- Chios) add on the Schengen Visa days or have I got it all wrong?

Thanks, Hayley

Greece is indeed part of Schengen. Though I don't think they're that strict with the number of days if you're from a rich country.

How strict they are depends on the mood of the immigration officer and how long you have. If you are over a few days or maybe a week, they probably won't care. If you are over by a month or so, you might have a problem.
