Honestly, how big is your pack???

We are traveling with 40L North Face Solaris bags. They work just great, hold all that we need, and fit on any flight.

I loved my Solaris, but unfortunately after 3 years, the shoulder straps were starting to wear so I picked-up a Terra 45, which had shoulder strap issues within 2 days. I then decide that an adjustable shoulder strap harness would probably be a step up. So I bought myself an Osprey Kestral 48 and could not be more pleased. Not only does it qualify as a carry-on, but it has zippered side pockets like my Solaris. Also, there are so many other features along with the adjustable harness, which improved the load distribution to where it feels as if I am carrying half the weight, that I will probably continue putting my trust in Kestral products.

Timmie, the Kestrel 48 is huge. Do you not pack it full? I can't picture any scenario where it qualifies as a carry-on bag.

Scritch, honestly, I have not traveled with it that long, so that it has not been filled to capacity. But after my experiences with North Face, I was determined to get the features I'd wanted, and an adjustable shoulder harness was certainly one of them. As I decided to carry a small netbook this time, I've come to see the value of this pack as far as size. And I never encountered any problems as far as carrying it with me onto my flights. I've certainly always been big on having a minimal sized backpack, but this allows me the luxury of throwing -in a few extras if I desire. And add to that, that it's much more comfortable than my Solaris, I am really happy with this choice. BTW,how are things in the Cresent City ? Timmie
