IN COMPARISON, THE AVERAGE ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT IN YOUR COUNTRY IS 24 ACRES PER PERSON.
WORLDWIDE, THERE EXIST 4.5 BIOLOGICALLY PRODUCTIVE ACRES PER PERSON.
IF EVERYONE LIVED LIKE YOU, WE WOULD NEED 4.1 PLANETS.
I guess I'm above average for the country, but that's not really saying much.

I found the questions a little narrow in scope. I don't even own a car so the fuel efficiency question skews my results a bit. I think everyone should have some idea of their impact and constantly be striving to reduce it where they can. It's not about giving up everything you love and living like a dirty hippy, just making smart choices and the odd sacrifice now and then.

I agree, the questions were very narrow in scope but then I guess it was just a rough guide.
I'm glad to be below average compared to my local counterparts but a lot more needs to be done by all of us.

Just out of interest, I went back and answered the survey with what I thought were pretty much the best possible answers that are consistent with anything like a typical "western" lifestyle (no flying, no driving, conservation minded eating and living habits etc.) The answer?
IF EVERYONE LIVED LIKE YOU, WE WOULD NEED 2.1 PLANETS.
This is really kind of disturbing.
Given that (nearly) everyone in the world today seems to aspire to SOMETHING like a typical western lifestyle (at least in terms of the levels of comfort and consumption,) the only answers seem to be that we must either radically change our views of what constitutes a desirable lifestyle, or significantly reduce the population of the planet...
Sadly, I don't see either of these happening any time soon.

Hiya
I thought I'd do this seeing as I write about eco stuff and my results are almost embarrassing!
Because I usually live in London but am in Australia at the mo I did both based on the two lifestyles and, believe it or not, it looks as if overcrowded bustling London life is better for you than living in sparsely populated Oz 2hrs from the nearest city in an eco friendly designed house!
London life using public transport with regular trips to Europe:
CATEGORY GLOBAL HECTARES
FOOD 1.2
MOBILITY 1.5
SHELTER 1
GOODS/SERVICES 1.4
TOTAL FOOTPRINT 5.1
IN COMPARISON, THE AVERAGE ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT IN YOUR COUNTRY IS 5.3 GLOBAL HECTARES PER PERSON.
WORLDWIDE, THERE EXIST 1.8 BIOLOGICALLY PRODUCTIVE GLOBAL HECTARES PER PERSON.
IF EVERYONE LIVED LIKE YOU, WE WOULD NEED 2.8 PLANETS.
Aussie life in an eco designed house 2hrs from anything, no public transport and loads of flying:
CATEGORY GLOBAL HECTARES
FOOD 2.2
MOBILITY 5.2
SHELTER 0.5
GOODS/SERVICES 4.4
TOTAL FOOTPRINT 12.3
IN COMPARISON, THE AVERAGE ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT IN YOUR COUNTRY IS 7.6 GLOBAL HECTARES PER PERSON.
WORLDWIDE, THERE EXIST 1.8 BIOLOGICALLY PRODUCTIVE GLOBAL HECTARES PER PERSON.
IF EVERYONE LIVED LIKE YOU, WE WOULD NEED 6.8 PLANETS.
Thanks for putting this post on gonorth.
