Hi all,
I am working on creating a blog for my upcoming rtw trip and am not super tech savvy. On it, I want to create an interactive map that shows where we are, where we have been, where we are going, etc.

Does anyone know of a good website to do this through or have any tips on how to make a map like this work?

Thanks!!!
Michelle

Are you taking a GPS with you? Most GPS units have the capability of tracking where you are and where you have been. Even if you just turn it on once and a while, you can update, and usually upload to a computer.

Travelpod.com has a very nice interface where you can enter a location for each blog post, and all your locations are then displayed using google maps and also on a timeline. You can also enter future locations. Check out some of the blogs over there and see if that is what you are looking for.

If you are setting up your own domain with wordpress for example, then it becomes way more complicated. There are a few wordpress plugins for google maps, but they are not as flexible and as easy to use.

Thanks for the replies guys. ScottandMeagan, I am not taking a GPS with me. I am just using a simple google blogspot. If anyone else has any further advice, please let me know!
Thanks!

tripline.net

Here is also a youtube link to learn how to create an interactive map....it is pretty cool. Our family leaves in January 2012 for a trip and have made a tripline.

You can use our Trip Planner to build a map. It's not necessarily interactive, but it would definitely work for your needs.

http://indie.bootsnall.com/

For instance, if you want to put your entire itinerary in before you leave, you can, then just click on the embed button at the top and it will give you a code to put in your blog. Super easy. You can also share via social media like FB and Twitter.

If you want to update as you go along, you can make one map when you get to your first destination (for instance, New York to London)
http://indie.bootsnall.com/NYC-LON-1325706984

Then when you move on, say you go overland to Rome, then fly to Mumbai, you just go back and create a new route. Here's what it would look like:
http://indie.bootsnall.com/NYC-LON-ROM-BOM-1325707044

You can even click on the bus icon below the city to signify any overland journeys. Hope this helps!
