so, what you're saying is, you suggest the vicodan too, huh?

I'm not very good at sleeping on planes. On a 13-hr trans pacific, i slept for prolly less than an hour...nearly went crazy. On the way back, not only did i sleep, but i also sat next to a large indian man who had been traveling for the past 24 hours and smelled like it.

However, once, on a flight MSP to LGW, we had to wait for a new plane for about 2 hrs. So what better to do that start drinkin? I was out before they could even pull out the drink carts.

I make sure I spend a good while stretching before getting on the plane. Usually a few push ups as well. Nothing worse than being stuck in the middle of the row with restless legs!

I am a shoulder giant. I never get the middle seat. Mostly I sleep. I have flown over a hundred times. Only three times have I gotten a seat mate that kept me interested in conversation. My best flight pal? A chinese woman who spoke no English but had a MASSIVE photo album at her disposal. Never understood a word she said, and neither she, me. We laughed for ten hours together.

I like long flights without chatty seatmates. I bring something to read and a notebook. Nothing else.

If I want to sleep, I'll do something very active the day/night before the flight, like a long hike (or even an all-night party with friends) before leaving.

I do lots of long flights alone with kids, too, and wearing them out beforehand always works wonders. E.g. once we were going from Oslo to Bangkok via Copenhagen. The Bangkok-flight left Copenhagen about 1600 so I got an early flight from Oslo to Copenhagen and we went to the zoo and Tivoli before the Bangkok flight. With getting up early, all the action through the day and all the fresh air, the kids fell asleep immediately on the Bangkok flight, woke up half an hour before landing, well-rested and in a great mood.

My Mom is 62 and brings her GameBoy with her. She's got over 20 games and it keeps her entertained!

I'm a book person. I have also brought my laptop now and then and watched DVD's on it if the inflight movie sucked.

My last flight but one was with Denmark's budget carrier, Sterling, to Copenhagen. It was fine - efficient and <Cleese>relatively crash-free</Cleese>. It was cheap.

My last flight was with BMI, since Sterling didn't have one for my return. It was a small Embrair 50-seat jet ( I love those things - you can't even stand up in them Smile ). I got a free sandwich. And free G&T. And then another free G&T. And by then I'd remembered - I was getting what I paid for Smile

So, in short - Gin Smile
