I have 15 days to travel mainland Europe after I get done with a project in Iceland. What's the quickest/cheapest way to get to mainland Europe (any country) from Iceland? Also, the best country to hop a plane back to the states?

The answer to both queries is Iceland Air.

Actually, the cheapest is Iceland Express but Iceland Air is most definitely more comfortable. There isn't much leg room, you get one bag at 20 kg, and there isn't even a free soft drink during the trip, but their fares reflect it. Iceland Express also flies to the New York area (EWR), Chicago, and I believe DC during the summer too, so if you can stand the lack of leg room, then it's a great, cheap way to get back to the USA from several places in Europe.

Iceland Express continues to expand service. Flight are still $250ish to mainland Europe, or as low as $170 to London.

In my opinion Iceland air is the best suitable option that you have. Though Iceland express is not that bad idea. But still I will prefer the initial one.

Only two options getting from Iceland to Europe so you should check them both, i.e. depends on your dates and destinations. Iceland Express might turn out cheaper from Iceland to Europe but make sure you check if there are any extra charges that are included in Icelandair prices, i.e. make sure you are comparing apple to apple.

You might be best off buying one way from Iceland to Europe and then search for cheapest flight one way from Europe back to the US. Again, depends on your destination in the States. If it is one of Icelandair / Iceland Express destination then maybe you can get good deal with them, i.e. one way to Europe and back via Iceland to the States. You will have to do your homework, based on your dates and destinations.

Have fun in Europe, you should be able to do something nice in 15 days. Hope you enjoy your stay in Iceland as well, and hopefully get the change to do some sightseeing outside Reykjavik (assuming your project is based there!)

Thanks, all. I checked out Iceland Express and they seem to be what I'm looking for.
