If you could, would you "go luxury"?

It kinda depends. I'm going to Ireland next summer with my daughter. She planned the trip not me (I wanted to go to Jordan but she read about squat toilets and decided Ireland was better) This will be a deluxe trip, she's even renting a car. The only thing she compromised on was the lodging- we'll be in B&Bs not hotels. Her rolling luggage will probably fit in better than my old pack with its flags. To me, that's the difference. Your whole method of travel changes when you go "deluxe".

Well, I need to add to my post. My daughter upgraded us to first class on our flights. It'll be interesting to see how the other half lives.

If I could, I'd fly first class everywhere. Once I get away from the airport, I'd still be a budget traveler. Deluxe restaurants and accommodations don't do anything for me -- but leg room, that's a different story!
