I am going to Russia in December and I am looking for some advise on possible itinerary ideas.
So far, obviously St Petersburg and Moscow is on the list. Ideally I would like to go to Mongolia as well, so with that in mind what place or places is a must visit between Moscow and Mongolia. It is just such a big country that I am having a hard time deciding on where I should stop on my way to Mongolia and what I should do, any advise is welcome. I only have a one month visa so I am limited on time.
As for Mongolia, I would love to spend some time with the eagle hunters. Does anybody know if this is possible in December and if so how does one go about arranging it ? I am not keen on joining a big tour group for this, but will consider joining a small group of people.
Please just don't question why I am going in December. I know it is dark and cold that is part of the reason I want to go there. It is something that I am not use to at all and will never experience it at home. Also I am a seasoned independent traveler, just having hard time finalizing my plans for Russia.

Itinerary advise for Russia and Mongolia

Hey there!
Cant tell anything about Mongolia, but I've been to St Petersburg and Moscow and just wanted to let you know that (in my opinion), St Petersburg offers way more than Moscow and I was a bit disappointed by Moscow as I was going to St Petersburg first.
So maybe shift some Moscow days to St Petersburg if you can
Cheers

This traveler's journey across Russia is spot on, well written, and really funny.
Enjoy.
Carriage returns
The temperature may be rising on the Trans-Siberian Railway but once off the train, the Irkutsk 'heat wave' leaves Jim covered in icicles
