I may be arriving J'burg 22,23 or 24 Dec and leaving again to fly to Sydney around 29 or 30th.
I am looking for a trip to fill in the time.
Not on a particularly tight budget and would consider a flight of a couple of hours or so.
We are a couple (M & F) late 50's, fit and pretty flexible.
Any suggestion would be welcomed.

A road trip to the Stellenbosch wine region, including Franschoek, would be possible if you can take a short flight to Cape Town from Jo'burg. That time of year though I'd be concerned about closures and full flights.

A Kruger game safari might be better if you're into that sort of thing. I did one with Gomo Gomo game lodge that was fantastic.

well, you should get transport to either Sabi Sands or Kruger Nat'l Park if you have only a few days in Jo'berg.... There are private game reserves... I stayed in a beautiful one: http://www.djuma.com

i wouldn't suggest kruger as i thought it was highly commercialized...yes you will see amazing animals, but i think etosha in namibia or chobe NP and/or okovango delta in botswana would be much better..

Kruger is still cool but i guess i was a little jaded after visiting some other really cool NPs
