jetstAR ARE RUBBISH & oz zoo

Postby whatyadoinsucka » July 9th, 2009

i booked a flight for sept to hervey bay from sydney ($40 each) with jetstar
they have since sent me a revised intinery attachment, with a plain email forgetting to even mention my new flight time had changed and so had the airport
therefore me and emma now fly into sunshine coast airport (maroochydore) 1030am

i've looked at premierms.com.au and greyhound and the busses are at 3.30pm arrive 9pm
upto hervey bay (very time constrained as going fraser day after, and booked a night in hervey)

is there any other bus networks?

so my questions is it worth getting down to australia zoo (42km 40 mins) and then getting the greyhound (onr) outside at 330pm arrive 8.30 ($85)
if so how do i get from the airport to aus zoo?
is there a bus ?, how much would a taxi be $$$$ ? (guestimate would be good)

otherwise could go upto noosa for a few hours (whats the weather like mid september) will it be tropical,

i went to aus zoo when good ol steve (bless his soul was around) 5 years back it was great
is the zoo still as good now ?

sorry this is a rant against jetstar, extra costs associated and no come back, and whether anyone thinks aus zoo is a good idea

I went to Australia Zoo in March and it was awesome. I went there a bit cynical about the whole thing, but was really impressed by how they go about things. The constant tributes to Steve Irwin can get a little trying & seem a little forced, but overall the park is excellent.

They also make it easy to get there/away. They have a courtesy bus that connects with local public transport, but you'll probably have to take another shuttle/bus from downtown Maroochydore to the airport.

Jetstar are not rubbish. I've travelled with them on numerous occassions in Australia and several times overseas and have never had a problem.

Now if you were talking about Tiger ........................Or Ryan ......................

The biggest issue I've heard about Jetstar is the airport they use in Melbourne is quite far out of town. It's the main reason I've not used them before, but that was due to my time in Melbourne being limited. I've not heard any bad stories about service.

sorry got to disagree, any airline that decides to change your destination and do not have the common decency to explain this on a revised email deserve to be out of business. I received a proforma letter saying my intinery had changed. no mention of airport changes

this is shoddy !!

why didn't i just book virginblue i had great service from them 6 years back, should have known a quantas co. would have no customer service

don't get me started on ryanair £10 to book in online (what a joke), and now they are suveying customers to see if they are willing to stand for flights of less than an hour

We had a bit of an issue with JetStar, too. BUT a phone call to their call centre answered all of my questions. It did take a second call to change our Brisbane to Sydney flight to an earlier one. One and a half hours to get baggage, get from domestic terminal to international was certainly not enough. AND there was no fee charged.

Airlines can, and very often do, change a passengers's flight. It's unusual for Jetstar not to notify you. I've flown with them several times, and they altered their flight times, but always, always I have received email notification. If you are unhappy with your new itinerary, Jetstar will, if you ask, change your flight to a time more suitable. Like the day before?

They changed my flight time to Christchurch which meant I'd miss my connecting flgiht with Air New Zealand, so I rang them explained the problem, asked them to alter it and they did.

If you go to the Hervey BAy Airport website, you'll see that three airlines are listed - Jetstar, Virgin Blue and Qantas. Try clicking on them and you'll see that neither Jetstar or Qantas have Hervey Bay airport listed in their drop down window - only Virgin Blue does.

So...it's not just Jetstar who have stopped flying there - Qantas have as well.

Hydro - Jetstar use Tullamarine just like all the other airlines do - they don't use a different one. Except for Tiger - they don't use the hangars at Tulla, they use the old Virgin Blue shed.

The story goes that when Virgin Blue first started out, other airlines - read Qantas- wouldn't permit them to use the same hangar space, so they used a tin shed which is off to the side. It's affectionatley dubbed "The Shed". Course Virgin have been flying in and out of the Tulla hangars for yonks now.

Gee thanks Groo - that's luverly that is! I've only got three flight lined up with them. Makes me feel real good that does. I hope it ain't true what I heard..that Tiger only have five planes and if one's out of action, they don't have another to cover it and so your flight's cancelled. Geeze.

Originally Jetstar only ever flew out of Avalon airport. Now I see they've expanded to include Tullamarine, which is great. It's handy for travellers to understand the difference though as Avalon is not convenient.

yes it is usual for airlines to amend flight times etc. but to expect a passenger to open a new attachment with nothing on the email to say anything has even changed..

next time they should write something in the lines of

" due to current operating conditions we have had to cancel the flight to yxz and have replaced your ticket to flight zxy. etc etc "
"please see you new intinery attached for these changes, please call ..... if problems"

ps ain't jetstar just qanty anyway

Yes, Jetstar is Qantas's budget airline and their answer to Virgin Blue. When Jetstar commenced operations in May 2005, they flew from both Avalon and Tullamarine. I had booked Qantas Melbourne>GC>Melbourne and was "downgraded" - they replaced their Qantas flights with Jetstar. They did offer a $60 discount for each person or your money back. Problem was if you went for the full refund, you couldn't get another flight for a similar price.

Jetstar still fly from both airports on certain flights - the ones from Avalon are cheaper, but personally I'd rather pay the extra and fly to/from Tulla.

As someone who frequently uses Jetstar and has had flight times changed, I have problems believing that they have changed your destination. Have you doubled checked your original booking, just maybe you made a mistake and booked a flight into/out of Sunshine Coast, rather than Gold Coast/Brisbane.

It is a common practice of airlines, especially budget ones to consolidate flights and cancel some. If the flight they have changed you to is unsuitable they will change to something more acceptable. As per your email notification, you just need to contact them.

ha ha - etc. etc. I'm guessing includes Ryanair? As visitors to the UK we had big problems with them, found out later they should have paid for our nights accommodation but no-one even mentioned that scenario to us.

Off to the USA soon, United Airlines changed their schedule which makes it impossible for us to get our connecting flight. TA basically said nothing we could do about it, as they ticket was a no refund, changes at $150usd, at nearly the cost of our original ticket. I phoned and spoke with them, when hearing of our dilemma they can to the party and refunded, so we could change our itinerary without extra charges.

Guess what I am saying, whinging on message boards doesn't really solve any of your problems, phoning the company concerned helps get things sorted out to the benefit of all concerned.

I went to Australia Zoo a year ago and thought it very good (though I can't compare to several years ago). I suspect it is relatively unchanged in the way they conduct their days. One of the most refreshing zoos I've ever been to.
