I did the John Muir Trail in California in the summer of 2009. It's about 230 miles from Yosemite Valley to Mt Whitney. It was an adventure of a lifetime. Having lived in CA for 13 years, I never thought I could see such beautiful things in my backyard. I always thought I had to go to New Zealand or the Himalayas for amazing scenery.
I'm about to finish writing my journal of the trip on my blog:
John Muir Trail Journal
I'll be more than happy to answer any questions for anyone planning to do this hike. If you have 3 weeks to spare and enjoy hiking, I highly recommend it.

Agreed. the JMT is awesome. I haven't been able to travel overseas recently but sections of the JMT alone keep me happy in California. Perhaps I'll do the entire length someday.
