Kakadu

Postby Keppie » October 10th, 2006

Can anyone suggest the cheapest way to see Kakadu? I'll be in Darwin for a week, but I'm quite poor and these $350 tours are a bit over my minimal budget. Anyone have suggestions? Thanks!

Have a look at www.greyhound.com.au as they have a Darwin to Kakadu service for about $35 one way and www.yha.com.au have two hostels, one being owned by aborigines and a good bet they would be able to organise to get around a bit and the other at Cooinda mentions fishing tours.

Might even be worth it to have a night or two at each.

You might even find in Darwin, quite a few hostels all close together in Mitchell St., that there could be people looking for others to share petrol

Hi there Keppie- if you haven't already gone on your trip- check out all of the Darwin postings on www.australiablog.com it is one of the travel logues from bootsnall. There is a car rental place called Chepa rental cars in Darwin on Mitchell street- I'm pretty sure renting from there is less expensive than a RT greyhound bus. you also have the freedon to drive yourself around. do yourself a favor and don't bother staying in Jabiru- check out Mary River, Annabaroo Lodge, or Cooinda.
