Figure out the best place to stay on Khao San Road in Bangkok and where to escape when you've had enough of the mayhem. From Singapore Slings to the changes in Bejing after the 2008 Olympics, gab about it all here.

Hi Megank

Very jealous that your off to India and Nepal! This was my first experience of travelling and so i read up on all the areas i would be travelling in like mad - i kept preparing myself for the craziness of India but to be honest, it never came!

When you cross the border it is after such an early morning and you have SO much travelling by jeep that day, there wasnt a noticeable difference. The main thing that we all spotted was the complete lack of advertising for beers/cigs in India - Nepal is covered with bill boards. When we arrived in Varanasi it is a mad and busy place but nothing other than what you expect or have seen on travel programmes. A smile and a 'no thank you' really does make people stop and think - most beggars or street sellers didnt seem to be used to politeness!

I didn't manage to squeeze in an Everest flight, i looked into it and they were all scheduled for early morning so i decided against it after a long flight. The first day you visit various temples in Kathmandu starting at 9am so you would have time for a flight, our guide didnt mention it so look into booking it privately.

Pack warm clothing for the early morning and evenings, when we were leaving in late oct-early nov it was beginning to get noticeably colder when the sun went down.

I was so scared going on my own but it was by far the best thing i have ever done - so enjoy the fear and have a great trip =)

Let me know if you have any more questions, i'll be happy to help.x

Thanks Alice, that's really helpful!

I don't doubt that I will visit Nepal again after this trip, for some trekking and the like, so I'm not really too stressed out about squeezing in an Everest flight.

Only three weeks to go!! Yay!

Do you have any pictures of the places you went during your trip online anywhere, that I could take a look at?
