Hey y'all!
Hope all is well out there in the interwebs! In order to scoot around some visa issues I'm having here in Berlin - I booked an impulsive week long jaunt to Morocco leaving next Friday. HURRAH! I'm super excited, as I have always wanted to go.... but now I'm scrambling to plan as to how best spend my time.

I'll be flying in and out of Agadir (cheapest fare trough easyjet), but really have no urge to stay there. Was considering jumping on the earliest train to Marrakech and sorting myself out there. My question: What is the best way to get from the airport to the bus station for the Suprabuses (which from what I've read seem to be the best? correct me if I'm wrong?) Is taxi the only option, or are there local buses that go back and forth? And what should I expect to pay for a taxi? I always get hosed my first day in a new country - so I'm just looking for ballparks.

Once I'm in Marrakech - any suggestions? Given I have a week I'm going to limit my trip to two places. Opinions on Marrakesh & Essaouira or Marrakesh & a trip out to the desert (suggestions welcome for best dune areas). I realize getting to the "good dunes" will take a great deal of time, so I may spend a large chunk of my holiday on the bus. However, its not exactly beachy season for Essaouria. I'm trying to way the pros and cons, as I've always wanted to see the desert! Just wish I had more time.

So my question is: If you were a late twenties female, traveling solo and (semi) flying by the seat of your pants - how would you spend one week? Any recommendations for especially tasty booths to eat in the souks? Great places to shop? Hammam recommendations for the slightly prude-ish? Hey, I'm American... we don't do nudity! I've been reading through many of the previous posts but I'm overwhelmed by info!

Any females have recommedations for friendly riads in the super budget category? I was considering Riad Massin, Hostel Riad Marrakech Rouge, or Hostel Riad Mama Marrakech -- but always prefer recommendations of mom & pop places that may not be itnernet savy.

Thanks so much! And if anyone is going to be in Marrakech or around there from the 18-25th of November, PM me :) We can grab a tea or tangine!

Agadir is actually a really amazing town. I wrote it off for a long time (I used to live in Morocco) and once I finally visited I realized how awesome it was. That said, Essouaria is amazing as well. And if you're headed up to Marrakesh, it's a great day/overnight trip from there. I'd also highly suggest doing a day trip into the Ourika Valley. It is, by far, some of the most gorgeous scenery I have ever seen in my life. I adore that area. As do most Moroccans.

Travelling as a lady solo my first time in Morocco, I stayed on the rooftop of this hostel in the heart of Djem el Fna. I forget the name (sorry that makes me kinda useless--but just google hostels in Djem el Fna and it should turn up. It's right in front of the mosque) but it's a decent place for tons of travelers and cheap rates.

Also you must do a hammam. Hammams are magic and amazing and you can wear your underwear. You'll get used to boobs everywhere in no time. But ask a hostel or hotel owner for directions to the hammam they go to. Because it will cost about 4000x less and the experience will be a lot more realistic. Any other questions feel free to ask.

Argh! Ten minutes worth of typing lost as page timed out, WTF?!!

Short of it was; Morocco is nice and easy, even as solo female.
Don’t worry too much about planning or booking in advance.
2/3 of my trip written up on my blog (link below should get you somewhere you can find it from...) but Marrakesh is missing cos I'm lazy.
Basically rocked up to Djeema el Fna and let a friendly tout find me a hotel, was basic but liveable and cheap as anything and half block off the main square.

Enjoy!
