I have found myself at the end/break in a relationship and am looking to leave to go vagbonding for a few months. 6 maybe? Ending in December with a wedding in Panama and heading to the US for Christmas. I have adequate, but not extravagant funds.

I want to be out of here in two weeks. Which means I have a lot of packing/organizing, etc to do, and don't have much time to research anything. I was going to book a Dragoman tour and start in Africa and go Nairobi to Cape Town but it's booked. The next one I can get on leaves Sept-Nov, which only gives me a month before the wedding in Panama.

If you were in my shoes, where would you go? I'm tempted to just book a ticket to London to get out of here and figure it out when I get there.

I've always wanted to go to Cornwall, Terra Cotta Warriors, Macchu Piccu, Luxor, and Africa. And just about everyhwere else.

What would you do?
And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years.

If you want to go Nairobi to Cape Town, go Nairobi to Cape Town. So what if the tour's booked?

Otherwise, yeah...fly somewhere interesting, and go from there. London's as good a starting point as any. Cross Eurasia over the next 3 or so month, and then South America until you need to be in Panama.

Booking a one way to a hub in Europe (e.g. London) is always a safe bet. We did this on our last trip and ended up leveraging the very well priced discount carriers (Ryan Air, Easy Jet etc) to see a bunch of Europe before heading overland into Russia (then did the transiberian into China). We (my fiance and I) are also starting to plan a "last minute" trip again (leave in 2 months) and are contemplating the same approach again. We find it so difficult to think straight about organizing a trip while working, so we are thinking of going direct to Europe (staying for a month) and then heading on... There are some great one-way fares out there (from the states) so it seems to be a reasonable approach cost-wise.

I believe (heard) that some of the cheapest flights to Africa are through London... so maybe you can look into this as well?

have fun!

Check out some other African adventure operators - there are loads of good ones besides dragoman doing exactly the same route. I can personally recommend Intrepid and GAP (Great adventure people) and Explore, having been with all of them.

Also - if your looking at doing it now - think about doing it the other way round - ie start at Cape town and travel up to Nairobi - because it is midwinter right down south and it will get warmer as you travel rather than colder - you will find most companies do both ways (how else do they get their trucks back and forth??)
Life is such an adventure, I can't wait to live it some more.

Africa, with all its safaris, is a bit expensive. Since you are already going back to central america, why not do south america for 6 months. It will be cheap, you'll see a whole lot, and you won't have to spend a lot of money to fly from africa to panama at the end of the trip!
