I would like to move to, and live in Paraguay.
Could anyone tell me the cost of living in Paraguay?
I don't have much funds as I'm disabled and get a disability check each month, but from what I understand it does not cost much to live in Paraguay.
Also if anyone knows of a cheap and clean hotel, or apartment, (not in the main part of the city would be cool) but anywhere is cool too.
I also live on fruits and veggies, and drink water and Mate only, so food costs should be small.
Any help greatly appreciated.
PS, any country other than Paraguay is ok too, I've never been to S.America, so I don't know which country may be best to relocate to?
Love, Joy, and Peace,
RedHawk

Redhawk:
There are many expats from all over the world living in Paraguay, and, apparently they´'re doing fine. They're mostly from European countries such as Germany (overwhelmingly), France, The Netherlands, etc.
Of course life is considerably less expensive than in the US, although recently the dollar has lost much of its value against the local currency, the guarani. But, nothing to be scared of.
Sorry I can´t be of much help at this point, but I´ve heard of some agencies (reliable ones) that work for expats wishing to establish in Paraguay. They offer their service mainly to Germans, though, but I don't see why they wouldn't work for an American. A very reliable person is Mrs. Alice Neufeld, whose phone # is +595 21 611-943, business hours (German, Spanish, English spoken).
Good luck! Regards.

Hi Redhawk, for Last four years I've spent 3 months in Asuncion each winter.Love the place & the people.
Wowow22 is right most ex pats seem to be german and majority european.
Cost of living is very cheap indedd.Being a brit I costed everything in pounds sterling but the following are what I remember from March 06. The pound was then 10,400 = £1
( the US dollar around 6,300 but falling a little)
Haircut 10,000 guaranis (G)
local buses( they go everywhere) 2100g any distance.
Oranges 1950g per kilo in S/mkt: 3000g for 8 in the street
Bananas 2639g per kg
daily Newspaper 4000g and 5000g on Sunday
2 litre Water natural or with gaz 2700g
BIG is a very popular Pizza place in Asuncion. A anchovy Pizza & water was 21000g
Shaving foam 17900g
I always imagined everything grows in S. America but I found the selection of fruit & veg of poor quality. Perhaps they can't afford the fertilizer.
If you want to know more drop me a line.
