Madagascar, opinions?

Hey there! Just looking for some opinions and thoughts from those who have traveled to Madagascar before...I know it's quite expensive to get to, but the place looks amazing. Wanted to see if anyone would care to share their experiences they've had there, how you traveled around in the country (did you hire a driver, take public transport?), whether it was safe/stable when you went, if you felt your trip was worth it, and anything you would recommend to see, to stay, to eat.
