Within June/July 2010 I have been to Madagascar, travelling independently and using public transport. My route included Mangily/Ifaty, Toliara, Isalo NP, Ranomafana NP, Fianarantsoa, Ankarafantsika NP, Mahajanga, Amber Mountain NP, Ankarana NP, Ramena, Andasibe-Mantadia NP, and Antananarivo. I have found travelling in Madagascar somewhat difficult but very interesting and rewarding.

When preparing the trip I also used information gathered at this site - to repay this help, and also considering that information given in available guidebooks is very incomplete, I have put a very detailed report on my experience for others to use on the internet - if interested check it out at my site: http://www.freewebs.com/vaclav-trips/madagascar.htm

Happy travels to everyone.

Thanks for sharing this with us--for when I do decide to go to Madagascar, a place I do want & have wanted to visit... Since Madagascar is not on my list for this trip, I won't read your lengthy report but I will know that when I do get a chance to visit, I can come to this list and search for Madagascar & hopefully find your report. Thank you again for sharing this! Great job!

Great trip reports, Madagascar sounds like a great place, would love to go there myself one day.

Good to hear you enjoyed your trip! And thanks for posting, especially your experiences of public transport. Both the LP and Bradt guide seem limited indeed, I'm still planning my trip to Madagascar and I didn't know about the MNP website yet so thanks for sharing! I didn't know Madagascar (Nosy Be) was visited by sex tourists. Nice that you're open about costs for national parks etc btw, that always comes in handy!
