Martial Arts across SE Asia

Postby Pseudo Nym » March 1st, 2009

Hi,

I'm planning an extended vacation through Burma, Thailand and Indochina and would like to investigate & sample the variety of local boxing/kick-boxing styles through the region. I've been training in Kung Fu & some Muay-Thai derivative kick-boxing and would like to see more styles to explore their variation.

Hence, I write wondering if anyone might have any suggestions or references for places to watch a few fights, or gyms suitable for 1 day to 1 week of training, through any or all of Burma, Cambodia, Laos or Thailand. Of course there are a number of general references for Thailand on the web, but less so for other countries.

So yes, that includes the 'adventure' of spectating as well as training, and includes styles such as Muay Thai, Muay Boran, Lethwei, Muay Lao and Pradal Serey.

Cheers,

I you go to www.fightpassport.com a guy has a blog about wandering around Thailand going to the various gyms. I'm interested in training at Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket.

Thanks.

I'm familiar with Tiger Muay Thai by knowing a few people who have trained there. I was just wondering if anyone had other suggestions, particularly for fight venues (and timing), especially outside Thailand.

I'll check out that blog, it looks quite good.

Thanks again.
