Hey Gang,
Does anyone know the coast of Michoacán, Mexico? I'm thinking of combining some time in the interior of Michoacán, with a little chill time on the beach. (Yes, winter has arrived in Seattle.) Would probably only be able to swing a couple of weeks, so wouldn't make a ton of sense to go much more than 3-or-so hours north of Lazaro Cardenas.
Done a tiny bit of reading, and know there are a lot of surfer spots along the coast but not really looking to follow the LP Surfboard Trail. (No offense surfers! I used to do a little myself!) More interested in a sleepy Mexican fishing village vibe. I know the two are not mutually exclusive, I just don't really want to be surrounded by a ton of surf culture.
Playa Azul? Caleta de Campos? Nexpa? Maruata?
I'll be doing some "city stuff" on the front or back end of this trip. All I'm looking for on this part of the trip is a nice beach, a palapa restaurant here or there and a hammock.
¡Mil Gracias!
Travis

Michoacán Coast Anyone?

I've been to Troncones. Was looking to find a place further north, away from the Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo influence.

i am hoping to head that way myself this spring. i have heard from students that caleta de campos is the best place to be if you want to have a beautiful, cheap, quiet time with friends. and that maruata is 'no good unless you want to drink til you pass out or traffic drugs' - NOT my words. i think he was trying to say its a party town. best of luck. by the way, how is the bus system to those beaches, i have heard there are only very slow local buses.
we would know far more about life's complexities if we applied ourselves to the close study of its contradictions instead of wasting so much time on similarities and connections, which should, anyway, be self explanatory - jose saramago

Hi,
Thanks pedromex and Bobbi-Jo. Hwy 200 runs right along the coast throughout the state, so I can't imagine busses will be any problem at all. Depending upon how far the beach/town is from the highway, may have to jump on a pasajera for the last couple miles, but that's no big.
Good to hear what your students said about Caleta de Campos, as I was more or less focusing on that as at least a starting point. And REALLY good to hear what pedromex said about the area being unspoiled, which is what I had heard.
Thanks!
