We've got overnight stops in Milan either way on our way to Albania later in the week and I was wondering if anyone can recommend where to stay?
On the way out we've got a bit of time to play with (both arriving and departing early afternoon) and have booked into what looks like a reasonably tidy hotel for around the same price as a private room in a hostel.
However, on the way back we arrive into Milan around 7pm and would need to be back at the airport by 6.30am so would really like some advice on where to spend that night.
I've looked at airport hotels but it seems they're all either out of our price range (trying to keep it under £50ish pn) or they're not that close to the airport with reviews mentioning hassles with transfers.
It looks like the trains and buses to Malpensa go early enough that we should be able to stay in town.
- Is the area around the central station somewhere we'd want to stay or is it a bit seedy?
- Is there another part of town you'd recommend that would make for easy connection to the airport at that hour?
- Can anyone recommend a specific hostel or hotel? Most of them seem to have fairly lacklustre reviews...
Thanks in advance.

Milan accom for early flight ex Malpensa

I've stayed at the Hotel Berna in Milan. It's about 3 blocks from the train station and you can get a bus to the airport on the corner right by the train station. I don't remember the cost but it's a really nice hotel and the area close to the train station felt safe. This was last May.

I had a look at that hotel and it was a bit out of our price range but I did find something I'm pretty happy with...
I'd more or less decided on what looked like a pretty mediocre but central hotel but thought I'd just do a quick check of Lastminute's Top Secret hotels to see what there was and low and behold...
I found a hotel described as having pedestrian access to T1 of Malpensa. A quick google of airport hotels and only one hotel seemed to fit the bill so I took a chance and now, for the very unprincely sum of £45, we are staying at the Sheraton! Score!
