What is lacking on the iphone ? Dont you have access to safari ? If there were a non-mobile version of BnA client, then it would merely become an issue of porting an app over to iphone. Or am I missing something ?

I use an iPhone to access the boards sometimes, too. An iPhone-specific template that would load when the user-agent called upon the BootsnAll forum server would be cool. It's very doable, depending on forum software and server setup.

Potential problems — it creates additional load every browser request.

Moreover, while the iPhone is becoming more and more popular. Let's face it — the percentage of people using it is still very very small compared to the rest. Well under 1% of total page views, I'm guessing!

So is it worth the effort? I thinks so! Because I'm one of the 1%. Is it worth cost and effort for BootsnAll through, probably not. Not for a few more years anyway.

But then again — only my opinion.

I also travel with an iPhone & it's handy for making a quick check on the boards when in a free hotspot but for posting they are a pain in the (censored) to type on, well for me any way.

I have fallen in love with my ACER netbook which will be traveling with me on my RTW so personally as one of the 1% I don't think it would be worth the effort but it would be 8-)

I agree.

Loading this on my iPhone, which I use for about 75% of my non-work web stuff, takes a while. I think part of it would be difficult because the ads help subsidize, and those would be stripped from the iPhone app, but there are ways around that.

Plus, when I'm traveling, I use my iPhone almost exclusively. (no more Internet fees!) I like this idea.

Actually, Google's just added support for AdSense on the iPhone! Read about it the other day. Well, maybe I'm wrong — by virtue of the demographics here on BootsnAll maybe we're all a little more 'mobile' than the general population.

I'm going to take a peak at my blog's analytics and see how many access it via iphone. I haven't done that yet, but did add an iphone-enabled template. So feel free to check it out and let me know if it renders nicely on yer phone!

I'm currently looking into some mods of the forum software that will auto-detect iPhone browsing and alter the template accordingly. Will try to keep this thread updated with that progress so you guys can test it out and give feedback.

Cool, Hydro! Happy to help and test! Am posting this from my iPhone as we speak!

It's great to have the ear of somebody who can implement changes!

I can't even log in from my BlackBerry. The Login button isn't active - I'm able to enter my email address and password, but there's no active button to send them in order to log in.

Ok folks, we have an experiment for you iPhone users. We've installed a mod that works with this app (costs $3) that should make browsing the forums with an iPhone a much better experience. If someone gives it ago, let me know how it looks/works.
