Monterey or SF to Northern Big Sur without Car
I was wondering if it 's at all possible to get from either Monterey or SF to a location south of there, almost to the northern reaches of Big Sur on a Sunday morning. I need to get to the Point Sur Lightstation. I would guess that's not possible without taking a cab, or possibly an airport shuttle, but does anyone have any ideas? Also, could anyone venture a guess how much a one-way cab ride there would be?

Mass transit is sparse in that part of CA.
There is one bus that travels between Monterey and Big Sur on the weekends this time of the year, and this may work for you.
Here is the schedule:

They don't say they stop at Pt. Sur, but the bus goes right past it and you might be able to get them to let you out.
Re the taxi: I have no idea how much it would cost, but it would be really expensive. Maybe $100? or more.
Why not rent a car for the day? It would be much cheaper than a taxi.
Good luck!

You may also want to try craigslist (www.craigslist.org) to see if someone is offering a rideshare that direction, or post that you are looking for one.
