Nepal, is it a safe destination

i was in north india about three weeks ago and the general consensus there was that it is safe in the tourist area's. perhaps you should consult your embassey regarding trekking and anything that is off the beaten track, but i certainly think, from what i've heard from other traveller's is that kathmandu is absolutely fine. people were fleeing the india situation (on advise from many embassies) to either thailand or nepal!
