Oh no! That does suck. Any chance your work IT gurus can add my.bna to the allowed list? Doughnuts and coffee make great bribes.

This thread doesn't have any tags.

You can still check out the tag index though.

What are tags?

When I click on chit chat, I am prompted by the old login.
I put in my login information and then I'm taken to the new unified login screen and have to log in again.

Do I need to change settings or is this a glitch?

Slip, were you already logged into the forums when you tried to access Chit-Chat?

On a related note....

I used to do a lot of reading of the boards when not loged in...when finding something I'd want to reply to, I'd then hit the 'reply' button and be taken to the login screen, login, and then right to the message.

Now, when hitting the reply I get "can't post until logged in". I then have to backup, hit the log in screen, then navigate back to the forum, then post.

Is there any way of fine tuning this?

thanks,

I think this was brought up before, but is it possible to list a users location under their name on the right? I understand people can enter their own location so it can be limited in use, but I found it useful to understand where someone was posting from.

If you have that field filled out in your profile, then it will appear under your post count.

Slip, it's on the list to try and streamline that process more.

I found another thing. When I originally posted http://boards.bootsnall.com/o-u-o-u-o-o-u-u-o-o-uso-t35143.html, it was in Arabic. In the new format it's in gibberish. I think it only affects titles, though, because I did use Japanese in WITP the other day.

When logging in, you don't get taken to the page/topic/latest post anymore. I get a page saying
Information
The requested topic does not exist.... And that's it. I have to click on board index which takes me to the forums, then it's a matter of scrolling down, finding the site you want, clicking, and then waiting if there's more than one page it's areal pain.

What happened to make this new layout so unfriendly - loggin in is like a mammoth operation. And why do I not receive any emails - or very rarely?
Thanks.

Edit to add:- Why are the usernames/handles no longer used to log in ? Is the logging in process going to stay the way it is now?

Actually, I just checked in the In Other Words forum and found that most of the other language support seems to have been lost.

Here's a test to see if the new format accepts different character sets:

Arabic ؤئق
Hebrew لגדהו
Cyrillic БВДЊ
Cherokee 
Japanese ヒレヲ
Chinese 仰休伕熄燨
Turkish ğış

It appears it does (except for Cherokee), so what happened to the old posts in other scripts?

In the transfer there was likely an encoding issue with special characters like those used in that forum. We did the best we could but it's obviously not perfect. Haci, are you able to edit that post to replace the characters with Arabic?

Also in your example below, Japanese and Chinese did not come through, along with Cherokee so some of it could be browser based as well.

Whistler, we're using email addresses as usernames now to help streamline the process of being able to log in once to BootsnAll and be able to use all the interactive features that entails. Not just posting on the message boards, but rating BootsnAll articles, leaving hostel reviews, etc
And why do I not receive any emails - or very rarely?

What emails are you expecting to receive that you do not? When you post a reply you have the option to subscribe to that thread and receive emails when it is updated.

Yeah, that worked.

That's funny because it did come through both at home and work for me.

Thanks, Hydro.

I dunno if this is what's going on with Whistler but: Before the switch I got notifications by default (I think this might have been set within my "Personal Zone") and now by default I get no notifications on my new posts/threads. But I still receive my notifications on my posts from before the switch. That may be why Whistler is getting some notifications and not others.

There is a similar setting in the new profile area. Check this page (when you're logged in) and change the 'Notify me upon replies by default:' setting to 'yes'.

You can also set each post manually using the checkbox under 'Options' below the 'Submit' button when adding a post.

Thanks Hydro, I changed the 'Notify me upon replies by default:' setting to 'yes'. That should enable notifications to come through. After I did this, I logged off and then logged back on. Nothing's changed in that department, it still takes 5 "clicks" and I still see "The requested topic does not exist". Still like to know if anyone else gets this. Then I'd know that at least it was...um...normal.

BTW, for those people who haven't been receiving PM's or who have sent them and they aren't being received, I think I've found the problem. When you click on "submit", you have to repeat it, that is you need to click "submit' twice. I sent a PM to someone and noticed where it should have been noted in the outbox there was nothing there, that's how I found out.
