Yes, currently it's 'normal' to get the "The requested topic does not exist" message when you click on an email link and you're not already logged in to the boards to actually view it. We're working to correct this.

However, in the meantime to save you 5 clicks, once you have logged in, go back to your email and click on the link again. You will then be taken right to the message.

You can still check out the tag index though.

What are tags?

It seems that when you ban a user, it starts listing all of their posts as coming from "guest." I'm finding this a bit confusing. Is there a way to avoid this?

Is it me or is the time stamp for each post out of whack? I have absolutely no idea how to read it...I see the month but after that no clue...it is driving me nuts.

You can edit the time stamp to be something easier to understand in your profile, under 'Board Preferences'. You can even customize it to your own preferences. For example, I am using
Code: Select all
M jS, 'y H:i
which displays like
Code: Select all
Feb 24th, '09 10:40

How to format the date how you want it is detailed on this page.

What does it mean when....

You click on "Who is online" and a page comes up showing (for example)
"There are 6 registered users and 1 hidden user online" and underneath will be a list of names. Some of those names you can "click on" but the others are written in a faded script, like Google [Bot], or Yahoo [Bot], or Ask Jeeves [Bot]?

The bots are search engines crawling the forums to index and rank our pages in their results. You can't click on them because there is nothing to see. They aren't real people and therefore don't have profile pages.

thanks for the explanation about bots Hydro, and now another question. When you click on "Members", then click on say an "e" or a "p", the list appears to be by joining date, ie the oldest date first. Is there some way of doing this alphabetically? It would make it so much quicker.

I have tried the search and the advanced search but nothing comes up.

Yes, if you click on the headings above the member list - username, date, rank, etc - this will sort the members by that column. It's not 100% accurate in my experience, but will get you close.

Awesome, Markus. You were a big proponent of it before. Bit of a learning curve for all of us, but I think we'll all appreciate how cool it can be once we start flexing the software's muscles a bit more.

I clicked on http://boards.bootsnall.com/stats and noticed that the weekly post count is a bit odd -- it seems to be keeping a running total for the last couple of months.

Most definitely, but you guys are doing a fantastic job of pounding the new octagonal piece into the hexagonal hole left behind by the old software. I totally understood previous reluctance to move away from Groupee, and to integrate a new system, but I was glad to see the switch, and think you're handling it phenomenally.

One thing I love about the new layout is something i only just discovered. You can see a list of the members by total post-count. This is something I was campaigning for under the old forum.

This post count reveals one very clear outcome. Static - you are a god amongst men. 8-)

Um...I can't see any headings above the member list. I did try, but I can't seem to find them. Am I looking in the wrong place?

They don't look like clickable links:
