I am planning an extended stay trip to possibly the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua, wanting any info from those who have been there. Am thinking of renting a place for a couple of months to keep expenses down, have a base for travel and get a feel for the area.

Have you been to the Caribbean side of Nica? It's one of the most undeveloped parts of Central America. Most of it is Miskitia, and barely accessible from the population core of the country. I've heard about people buying property down there, but they fly in and out.
