Sadly, few Americans realize what a fabulous way camping is for traveling Europe and how cheap and luxurious it can be. We've been traveling here the last 4 years and I write this from a beautiful spot in the south of France. We're paying 17 dollars a night and tents are much less ( because we have an RV and plug into electricity.) I'm writing this on the free wifi here. We almost never see Americans on our travels but DO enjoy spending time with families from many countries.

There is not a site or city in Europe that doesn't have a campsite nearby and in many places camping is FREE. It is the common budget travel way. Here are five of our favorites:

And they have great FREE entertainment for the kids ( besides the pools, sauna, jacuzzi's, water parks, zoos, tennis courts, basketball courts, soccer fields etc etc)

I didn't know this when we began, but my daughter has really enjoyed them, so I'm passing this secret along! It's cheapest to camp, but they also have bungalow rentals at every campsite and they are always close to mass transit or within walking distance.

Totally agree WT!!!!
I was fortunate that I grew up 7 years in Europe, two in Italy, and five in Germany.
My parents took us everywhere and we camped...
Hubby and I spent our honeymoon camping thru Europe for a month and did the same with kiddos almost three years ago. I felt like I was camping in folks garden in many of them.

Whenever folks wonder how we took five kids to Europe for a month I have to pull out all of my plugs for camping in Europe.

My parents still go to Europe about twice a year and spend weeks at a time camping, they honestly could financially do just about anything they want and they choose to camp.
