I spent a long time trying to decide where to go for some outdoor adventures in El Salvador - anybody else in the same boat? Here's my two cents - visit the Parque Nacional El Imposible. I got here (Tacuba) a couple of days ago, and it's been fantastic. I'm staying in the Hostal de Mamá y Papá, which is actually the family home of Manolo, the owner of a great tour company called Imposible Tours (http://imposibletours.com/.) It's cheap and convenient - room, board, and tours all in the same place.

Manolo organizes tours depending on what the hostel guests want to do - hiking, waterfall jumping, canopy tours, mountain biking, beach trips, visiting La Ruta de Las Flores, you name it. Most of the tours are in El Imposible, which is amazing. If you're at all interested in getting outdoors in El Salvador, I highly recommend spending a few days here. I'm pretty sure Imposible Tours is in most of the Central American guidebooks if you want more information.
Happy travels!
