Peru 10/1 to 10/18 Need some advice

Figure out the best way to get from Central to South America, when you should book your accommodations for Carnaval and local language school recommendations. If it's on South America, it's in this forum.

Peru 10/1 to 10/18 Need some advice

Postby Tom Bombadil » August 4th, 2009

Im travelling to Lima on 10/1 and then I have a flight to Cuzco on 10/5. Im hiking the Inca trail from 10/7 to 10/12 but after that I have 6 days to have some fun.

Couple things: I need some good places to stay in Lima and Cuzco...Im travelling alone so a place full of backpackers would be ideal. Next, when I go to cities, I like to have fun and party. If there are sites to see, I usually knock it all out in the first day and then its time to relax, meet people, drink and have fun. I've never been to South America and don't really have time to hit another country so where else in Peru can you party? From what I read, people are saying Lima kinda stinks so if anyone has any day trip advice from there as well, Im completely flexible.

Home Sweet Home has places in Cuzco and Ollantaytambo and they were cheap, safe, and clean.

Don't think so.
Partying and drinking seem to be your main objective, and that's not what most people go for to South America. Instad, it's ancient cultures, colonial cities, trekking and jungle expeditions that are the main draw.

If partying is your objective, try Argentina. Buenos Aires seems to be a popular party spot, and the people like having a good time there. It's pretty hard to knock out Machu Picchu in a day or so, let alone all the other pyramids and mountain towns.

Lima is not known to be safe for people walking around drunk.

Lame.

Obviously, my objective is Macchu Picchu, which Im doing a 4 day trek and 2 extra days in Cuzco. I just can't imagine a country on the coastline doesn't have a spot to party. Surely, Peruvians throw down just like anybody else in the world.

Well, at least you guys replied...thanks. Where are the Aussies and the English when you need them, they're always up for a good time.

Dude if you're looking for partying in Cuzco go to Pirwa or Loki hostels. Both are built around large courtyards and are chock full of 20-somethings looking for a party. Loki books out early - do it sooner than later!

Oh and if you get sick of Peruvian food, you HAVE TO check out Jack's Place - they serve an amazing huevos rancheros and big fluffy pancakes.

Tom, there are plenty of party spots in Lima and they range from gay discos to death metal headbangers, with everything in between. The Lima party scene is much more varied than Buenos Aires and miles ahead of anything else in South America.

I'm quite a bit past the screaming, pimple-faced adolescent phase, but still enjoy killing the brain cells every now and then. A couple of my favorite party spots are in Barranco, probably because they're not your typical Barranco bars. Andayhuasi is in an old coverted colonial house, right on San Martin a block before the puente de suspiros. It's a laid back place to enjoy a pisco sour or three. Draws a good crowd and there are always attractive females (although I'm not allowed to look). The other is Picas, a new bar right under the puente de suspiros. It's a little higher end and draws a snobbier crowd, but its still fun. There are also plenty of dance clubs from salsa to 80s music and plenty of strip bars if that's your thing. Options are endless..... good luck.

There are many backpacker places in and around Miraflores in Lima. There are atleast half-a-dozen around Parque Kennedy. My trips to Lima have involved stays in places which are international chains.
Parque is also a good place to relax.
