Right now I'm working my a** off at my regular job pulling in as many hours as I can. Luckily, I usually love my job! Now if only my husband would get off his butt and find a job, we'd be able to put a lot more away. He has to soon because our goal is to save 60 to 70,000 USD by October next year!

In response to your question, I think the answer is yes, all of the above. I would say it all really depends on the person, their age, lifestyle, commitments, family, goals and priorities, location(s) and length of travel, etc.
Ultimately, to travel involves some kind of financial resources so I think most people do what they can to achieve this goal. Of course, for those who have permanent jobs, the question of quitting their work to travel can create personal dilemmas as seen discussed in other postings.
Then there is the mode of travel where one "takes" all the available money with them or conversely, plans to get work along the way to help finance the trip.
Having friends or family to crash at also helps to keep costs down. Then there is the option of linking your travel to working for volunteer organizations which can also result in less funding requirements.
I wish I could say there was a world-wide travel scholarship fund to apply to. If you ever find out about one, let me know!

Here's some info on budgeting, with a few tips I have usually worked as many odd jobs as possible and traveled on that money, a credit card, and school loans (oops, don't tell the bank!)

BTW, there ARE world-wide travel scholarships...I have a friend who got 24,000 US to go rtw for a year...but most of them are school related. Check with local universities to see if there is anything you qualify for!

Well i'm 31 always fancied travelling worked for the past 13 yrs( bloody hard). Been married divorced (didn't last long) now just come out of a longterm relationship.I could stay here and make it work with him.....but no!
For the first time in my life i'm doing whats right for me.
I'm selling my sensible house leaving my sensible job of which i've built up a good career and going on a bloody good working holiday. Spending lots(saving some to come back to) and can't wait.
Some people are saying go for it others think i'm mad. But for anyone thinking about doing it and can't decide to spend there life savings just think about it you can always come back to boring life you can't buy a experiance.Who wants to live a life of regret? Not i!
I know i won't have regrets only a great time. So do it!!
If you haven't got property just work really hard before you go you don't need that much money and can work when away!!

Go for it girl! You're right, if things don't work out you can come back and easily slot back into a life of drudgery, at least until those feet of yours start itching again.
I've done the same and am arming myself with a TEFL cert. so that I can do something other than barwork, childcare or cleaning whilst I drift around the world. I would like to think that I need never come back to live in the UK, although like you, I will leave something behind from the sale of my house, that will help me pick up the pieces if I spend my allowance.
