Hi,I've got 2 friends coming to Sydeny on 1st Jan and we want to do some touring around.I have been in Australia for about 3 months but only stayed in Canberra for my study.

My friends will arrive at Sydney on 1st,Jan,and we have to go back to Sydney on 7th,one will leave and the other 2 can still go around. We are all "foreigners",so we want to see some beautiful and exciting places of AU.

I really need some suggestions about the trip. Are there any nice travelling agencies you can recommend?

Any information would be appreciated.Thx a lot.

Before I give you my opinion, let me state that I have not been to Australia...but there are some well-known obvious sites to visit and I have a good friend over there too...

Sydney is supposed to be wonderful, obviously you have the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge (go to visit both!)...and I would recommend a cruise in the harbour...although don't go swimming in it as I've heard there are Great Whites there..

Try to get to Perth....I've heard it is a great place to visit and very chilled out...

If you're going to go all the way to Australia you really can't go and not see Uluru and Ayer's Rock...I've heard that there are two tours not to be missed - The Sunrise Tour and also the Sunset Tour...I think you can book these when you get there.

Hope this helps!! Smile

Ok so the friend leaving the 7th wont get there till the third with crossing the international dateline i believe depending on when she is leaving at night...at the very earliest assuming its direct she'll get there the 2nd that gives you 4 days to see australia...that is really tight...

i would suggest spending 1-2 days going around sydney checking out the sites...some have already been listed.

Opera house, bridge, the rocks is another place to go walk around, you have the botanical gardens and many other places to visit...darling harbour...st paddies market (for all the touristy chatchkas...

so that leaves you with 2 days...my suggestion here is to see the blue mountains possibly or just stay in sydney check out the beaches there (should be nice and hot in january) and just chill in sydney...

I mean 4-5 is really tight...now your second friend you said can stay around...i would suggest going up the coast to byron bay (beach town), or all the way up cairns...not sure how rainy it will be...if gonorth is around he'll chime in and give you his two cents on this...

those are my suggestions...

I would not suggest perth as the flight is costly and you dont have much time...

you either pick one place to really see, or pick maybe two places to see rather quickly.

There will be a test match on in Sydney early January but would suspect that wouldn't grab your fancy 123...

You could go out to Katoomba for a day to scenic world for a day

and as dreamer helen says, the harbour, the opera house and a trip to many on the ferry are pretty standard fare. There is also the zoo and if you go to this page you should find some exciting things to do including a climb over the bridge.

If you get sick of Sydney, head north up the coast and you will find plenty of activity once off the free way and onto the coast road. A week isn't really enough time to go to far afield from Sydney.

So far so good.

Hi there 12345,

If you go to Katoomba and the Blue Mountains might I suggest a trip out to the Jenolan Caves. You can book this trip in Sydney and there is 1 that departs from katoomba.

Another fantastic touristy thing to do is the

HARBOUR BRIDGE CLIMB I did it in July last year and believe me it was the most fantasticly awesome experience.

A tip tho, if you do the climb, do the last daylight climb, because it is about $75.00 cheaper than the sunset climb . That's the one I chose and we still got to see the sunset from top of the bridge-- only difference was instead of standing exactly on the top we were a few steps down , but it didnt matter the view is still the same.

Catching the Manly ferry is another really fun thing too, and theres a nice fish n chip shop there too. The walk up the Concourse (the main road with lots of trees) is relaxing and pretty.

On the right hand side 2 thirds of the way up is a shop with lots of hand bags at the front - you can get some fantastic bargains there, I bought a bag there for $10.00 the same bag elsewhere sells for $30.00.

Hope this helps

Have a nice day, Whistler.
