Silly Question I suppose: Vaccine(s)

Head Down Under and yap about bloody Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. Determine the best place to buy a car, how to get a working holiday visa and the best route for travelling the east coast of Oz and around the Kiwi Islands.

Silly Question I suppose: Vaccine(s)

Postby Cormac » February 15th, 2007

In preparation for coming to OZ, I checked with my doctor and two others whether I needed vaccine injections before going. Two other doctors since I couldn't quite believe that I didn't. This is mostly to satisfy my parents, who are convinced that I need them. Basically I'll be on mainland Oz, mostly near the cities. Wouldn't I need some vaccines? Anyone got any experiences of this? (I'm not in a hurry to fork out the cash for the vaccines, and yet it might be worth it for the peace of mind)

I'd probably say have the tetanus shot and thats about it. You really dont need anything else and most people will have had some form of Tet/Dip/Polio shot.

Besides the basic booster shots that you get around age 12 and the tetanus shot every 10 years, there are no vaccines you have to get before going to Oz, so I wouldn't worry about it.

The only cooties you should be worrying about are the mozzies and the "Hostel Grade" bed bugs.

If the mozzies you encounter in the north half of Australia have jailbird stripes on their pants then I recommend something like "Rid" for protection. Otherwise it's Dengue Fever for you my dear!

But honestly, as long as you don't plan on some wild sex sessions with all and sundry, you are very safe.

Hey - I didn't realise you are already here. Give me a yell if you want to meet up for a beer or a bike ride around town. Trinque
