bali...really that cheap?

Postby onawhim » February 19th, 2009

I'm thinking of having some designs made in Bali and so want to go for a semi business trip. Problem is the funds are low and I really need to budget for this.
Is it really that cheap to travel there? Obviously I can look at flight prices, but if I could get some views on accommodation and other expenses for say 3 weeks...that would be great.

onawhim,

There are some dead cheap places in Kuta. It's been a 2+ years since I was there (going back in 2 month though) - I stayed at places that were in the $5/night range with bathroom - no AC. If you look around Poppies etc and negotiate for a weekly rate, you'll be in for cheap.

As for food - very cheap as well. Lotsa cheap eateries and you can just get nasi (rice) from the street vendors and live fine. :)

Lot of people do have designs made in Bali .yes if you get things made in Bulk it can be very cheap. I used to do the markets a few years back and got all sort of things made in Bali. It will take some research to find the right people for the job. What are you looking at having made clothing ,Jewellery furniture?

The chances you will find anywhere chap to stay in Seminyak are slim I would stick to Kuta . Not the best place t stay but will be the cheapest. But if you do find somewhere in seminyak area this may be good for getting information from the local designer on where they have their things made and so on you will meeting people on your travels as there are heaps of expats living in this area. Doing what you are thinking of doing.

Look at getting a package deal you may be able to find a place for a few day which were included in airfare.
