Travel Photography Contests

I would enter... but I don't want to pay the $12 per photo entry fee. I just can't bring myself to pay to enter to maybe (but probably not) win a prize....

I'm going to enter, why not. Yes there's a fee, but with the big guys there usually is! Thanks for posting the link Jessie.

I know of one that looks really good! Its called Fields of the World, that 1-800-Flowers is having. All you have to do is submit a photo and tell them a story behind the photo, preferable a little info about the country and why you took the photo. Pretty easy huh? Here's the link: http://1800flowers.eprize.net/fieldsoftheworld/

You cannot enter the Fields of the World if you live in Australia - I tried.

Found this competition for those in Australia, being run by Lonely Planet and Angus and Robertson bookstores. Was going to enter until I read this in the conditions.....
15. On submission, your entry becomes the property of Lonely Planet, and you give Lonely Planet a worldwide, irrevocable licence to reproduce, publish, adapt, communicate and broadcast all or part of it in any form and media, and to sublicense those rights (including to Lonely Planets related companies, licensee publishers and partners). You also consent to Lonely Planet editing, re-using, storing, reproducing and communicating your entry in any medium. Lonely Planet will decide whether you should be attributed.
Bastards.

Re: Travel Photography Contests
I see Lonely Planet continue to be stingey bastards when it comes to using photos submitted in their competitions.
This is from a competition being run by Lonely Planet in partnership with travel company Intrepid Travel:
While the photographer retains the copyright of all images submitted as competition entries, Intrepid Travel and our Intrepid Photography Competition partners reserve the right to unlimited use of the photos for company brochures, promotion and advertising.
It annoys me when competitions are run for the sole purpose of increasing the library of a certain company, with no real effort on their part. Give me a competition that celebrates the art of photography for it's own sake any day (such as the Heart of Gold International Photographic Competition). http://www.heartofgold.com.au/hogip/home.html
