Hostel in Hanoi?

Figure out the best place to stay on Khao San Road in Bangkok and where to escape when you've had enough of the mayhem. From Singapore Slings to the changes in Bejing after the 2008 Olympics, gab about it all here.

Hostel in Hanoi?

Postby beatenesheim » May 25th, 2009

Arriving in Hanoi around 30th of May. Looking for advice on some good budget hotels/hostels centrally located.

Thanks in advance!

The Old Quarter is where hotels ranging from out and out dumps through to 3/4 star can be found.

Several, if not many, are rented out by owners to operators and as a result there is a fast turn over in management and therefore quality changes quickly.

Go to www.TripAdvisor.com and see what guests are saying about places.

You cannot trust most reservation web sites for VietNam Hotels as they contain inaccurate / outright lies about hotel properties! This includes Hotel.com and Hostels.com - no checkups are made of the hotels.

Never, ever ask a taxi driver, either, as many are paid off by the more dubious hotels.

OKay, not dirt cheap, but AMAZING is Hotel Serenity Hanoi. The staff is great, the rooms are amazing, and it's in a great location. Check it out on tripadvisor... it has crazy good reviews (just added one recently too). Son, the manager, will take care of anything you need. Take the Sapa trip with them and you will not regret it.

Rates are 25 bucks a night, but negotiable... especially if you're there for a few nights. Includes breakfast.

It's a hotel and not a hostel but it's really very great.

Hi,

I have stayed in Hanoi backpackers Hostel on 2 differnet trips to Vietnam.

I would say it has maybe got a bit too popular but if you are travelling alone and want to make friends then this is the place to come. The aussie owners make sure everyone gets togther and have a laugh and party. Its is all dorms so if your fine with that then I would stay there. Also its got a good location right by the lake.

I totally agree with what Travelmatty says. Hanoi backpackers is terrific if you are lone traveller looking to meet people so your time in Hanoi isn't on your lonesome. I found it very clean and full of many backpackers to get some great advice from (as well as the guys running the place)
