A trip through the Pyrenees by car (Spain/France)

Postby Supertramp » June 1st, 2009

Greetings,

We're planning to do a trip from the atlantic down to the mediterranean across (or close-around) the Pyrenees the second half of august. I was wondering if there are certain spots well worth visiting there. The main activities for the trip will be surfing (except for me, since I just got ACL surgery done in april :( ), rafting, camping, some hiking, maybe some mountainbiking but ofcourse also visiting some bars and restaurants in great locations. We'd be driving with our car and camping with tents overnight.

There's a couple of spots that I've seen mentioned by searching the forum; San Sebastiàn-Donostia, Biarritz, Ordesa Park and obviously Barcelona. But I was wondering if there were any other places with amazing nature scenes along the way from the atlantic to the mediterranean, or some detailed information about those I already mentioned, like great camping sites etc.
For example a camping spot that's only reachable on foot (but still reachable within a day's walk) would be awesome, when I visited the grand canyon there were camping spots like that if you went down a hiking trail towards the river, are there spots like that in the pyrenees aswell?
Obviously other suggestions in or very close by the pyrenees that are worth visiting are welcome too, aslong as it's nature-aimed (mountains, waterfalls, valleys, lakes, beaches, etc). Culture (like musea, historical places, etc) doesn't really fascinate us all that much.

Thanks in advance.
