Study in Norway

Postby on_ancient_road » April 14th, 2009

Just got admitted to NTNU, while waiting on replies from other colleges (the Netherlands is another one), wander if others have had experience studying/living in norway, any opinions on the city, Trondheim, and the university would be greatly appreciated as well.

Hi,

Trondheim is a very good city to live in if you're a student - and don't mind chilly winters. The city is very much geared towards the students and the university. Also, Trondheim is an 1100-year-old Viking city, so if you're interested in history, there's plenty to see and do. There's also a vibrant music scene and all kinds of theatrical productions.

As for the school, I'd say, if you're studying any kind of science or technology, it's a very exciting, cutting-edge university. After all, this is where GSM-technlogy was first developed - you might already know that. Anyway, these students are very well taken care of. Other subjects (non-technological) seem to be down-prioritized a bit and those students aren't quite as happy with it.

My daughter is just finishing her bachelor's degree at NTNU this spring. I just spoke with her and she'll be happy to answer your questions, so if you're still interested, I'll send you her e-mail address.

Best of luck to you!

I also interested in study in Norway and know that technology program there is very popular. However, I was surprised knowing that students studying other subjects are not happy with their less famous program. Since I would like to continue my Master in English Literature and Norway seems to be a nice place where I could continue what I have learned and take advantage in learning other language, Norwegian. Do you think there will be any difficulty for me to do so?
