40D or 450D

Postby Dare » June 13th, 2009

Hey guys,

Just some advice before I purchase a camera. I'm tossing up between the Canon 40D or Canon 450D. My main concern with the 40D is the size of the thing - it's huge! I'm used to my little Pentax SLR. Does anyone find it is too big and bulky to travel around with? Too obtrusive? Would I be better just getting the 450D?

Any advice would be great - and it doesn't just have to be about the size of the cameras either.

Thanks,

Kelly

Neither camera is pro or full sensor. Although the 40d has the higher spec and yes it is quite a bit heavier, but more solidly built. I have the 450d and am very happy with it, although it feels more lightweight and bit 'plasticky' I am now used to it. I didnt want to go too heavy as i go trekking.

its much much more about the lenses that go with the camera that make all the difference to your photos - if the 450d at the cheaper price allows you to purchase better lenses than the not-so-great kit lenses that these cameras tend to come with then I would go for that option - get the best lenses that you can afford!

The best thing to do is try them out.
Life is such an adventure, I can't wait to live it some more.

I also have the 450D and it's possible to squeeze excellent photos from it, using good lenses. But now, I think they released the 500D with HD video on it... Not sure how much it costs though.

I went for the 40D with 17-85 lens. Don't say it's crappy because I've already paid for it!!! :-)
