Saw this article this morning. I'll be setting it up this weekend.
With this simple, free software hack, you can add RAW support, histograms, burst mode, and other high-end features to even a low-end Canon camera.

In case my silence wasn't enough of an answer. I never did the install. You have to download the proper upgrade for your firmware version and I can't figure mine out. Its a Canon S2IS. I found one place telling me to hold down the function button and press the display button and it will show me. My display button stopped working in Thailand so that option was out. The other option I found was to use Canon's Zoombrowser program. I tried that, but didn't have a new enough version of it and didn't want to download a 75meg update for a program I never use.
I primarily wanted it because it would allow me to shoot in RAW format for that once in a lifetime shot. Of course all of them would have to be taken in RAW then because you never know which one that's going to be, but SD cards are cheap and I copy my photos over to my mp3 player as I go. If anyone has another way for me to check my firmware I'll give it another go.
I'm heading to the Galapagos and Ecuador the last two weeks in November so I think I'll put off any more tinkering with the camera until after that.

I did this for my Canon Powershot SD880. It works like a charm. The only reason I did it though was for aperture priority mode HDR photos, which the SD880 version of the firmware doesn't seem to handle (apparently it only does shutter priority ones, which I'm told causes a DOF issue). It was able to photograph in RAW format though and does display a better battery indicator and on-screen histogram.
