SW China and Tiger Leaping Gorge

Postby susan123 » April 11th, 2009

Just wanted to see if there is anyone who might be interested in going to that part of China, and specifically with trekking Tiger Leaping Gorge, which is one of the deepest gorges in the world. The trek itself takes at least two days, but I would like to do it in three days, because the scenery is gorgeous and there are numerous guesthouses along the way.

Of course, there is no shortage of attractions in SW China (the best will be in the itinerary, including Jiuzhagou and Tibetan culture) but the trek will be the highlight because it is something I want to do before my legs give out ;-)

I am not decided about when that trip may be, but a good time would be either Oct this year or April next year.

Not sure if you have done this trip yet - be aware that very little English is spoken in China! As a result it is extremely difficult to get around on your own. On your way to each destination, make sure you write the address of your guest-house down on a piece of paper, find someone on the plane or bus who speaks English (you will find one or two) and ask them to translate your destination into Chinese, and they must write it down. You will need to show this to your taxi driver when you arrive. THE TAXI DRIVERS DON'T SPEAK ENGLISH AT ALL - anywhere other than Beijing. SW China is spectacular - enjoy.
