I'm arriving in Port Douglas at the start of April 2010 to look for work that will let me live/work/play in the area until at least August - possibly longer. I think I want a cleaning job, because I want to leave the office and move around rather than just sit all day. Does anyone have any tips or info on any places that are better to work for than others? I was also wondering about accommodation - are there many share houses in Port Douglas?
Any help is much appreciated.

Firstly, do you have your working holiday visa?
Seek is a pretty good place to start your job hunt.
Here's a list of hostels in Port Douglas until you can find a house share. You might meet other travellers keen to do the same thing as you and you can get your own place. Keep an eye out for the PORT DOUGLAS & MOSSMAN GAZETTE, the local newspaper (or maybe have it sent to you). I could not find an online version of it, but it should have classifieds with rental ads.

There are a few Share Accomodation websites around too.
Be warned though, of the ones who say "I don't need to meet you beforehand, I'm out of the country at the moment, you can send bond and rent money to my Lawyer". These ones are also at prices that are just too good to be true. If they knew what they were talking about then they would also know that in Australia we use Solicitors for that sort of thing. Another thing - their grammar / vocab will be a bit 'off'. Good luck.
